This CD isn't going to be easy to review! However it is a fabulous CD extravaganza of the most wonderful acoustic guitar playing you will ever hear. This CD album isn't strictly blues, although some of the tracks are. I seem to think Adrian also contributes to guitar magazines but I'm not 100% on this. The CD is wonderful, whether you listen to it as background music or hang on to each and every one of those fabulous ringing notes of Adrian's sweet sounding guitars. There are no vocals on any of these tracks but it is of no consequence as the voice is the guitar-and it certainly sings, it's so uplifting. I won't go track by track but I shall have to highlight some of the finer points. To me the CD isn't stuck in one style of acoustic guitar playing. I also have no idea what is original and what is a cover on this excellent CD. The jaunty St Mary's is a lovely track, a happy beautifully played piece, with so many notes you can hardly believe it. It is also very mellow and relaxing. The CD opening number Uncle Adrian I feel must be an original track. Short and sweet but with a thousand notes it's a nice track. Being of Irish descent myself, I never tire of Jigs (must be in the genes). Adrian's brilliant version La Giga Anziana (The Elderly Jig) is absolutely wonderful, making the hair at the back of my neck stand up and shivers down my back –seriously. Although the title doesn't sound Irish the feel is undeniably Celtic . Another track I feel an affinity for is O'Malley & Delacey . More superbly fast and fluent passages reminding me slightly of my dearly departed hero, Rory Gallagher. Keeping in the same vein comes Short Story, a folky medium-tempo tune with an Irish feel. Love it! The eerie start to Ghost In The Hills gives way to a more jaunty sound for the rest of this happy sounding track. I have to take a step back and marvel at Adrian's playing. How does he play so well? The playing is so accurate, never a duff note. The title Een Kleijne Komedye is” Double Dutch” to me but this fast number is amazing and great crescendo to finish the album. There are more notes in Adrian's tracks than in an AC/DC concert! As the CD finished the room fell into a really sudden silence! It's a good CD - no question about it. Have it playing in the background or listen to it intently, either way this CD hits the spot. It's a pleasant change for me being an electric guitar enthusiast to listen to something so good and without a hint of gain on the amp! I wish I could play like Adrian Legg, he is fantastic with an acoustic guitar and this CD showcases his skill, flair, and sheer sense of musical expression. If you like acoustic guitar, then you would be foolish to ignore this lovely CD. Find out more about Adrian at info@rosebudus.com or go to www.adrianlegg.com Steve Lally © |
